About

When I was in fifth or sixth grade, I wrote an autobiograhy as a school assignment, entitled “My Life.” When you think about it, that’s a pretty morbid (and funny) thing to ask a 12 year old to do.  Mrs. Harker, I think I finally get the joke.  In that essay, my first expository work of any real substance, I wrote the following:  “One of my hobbies is record collecting.  Right now I have one record.”  Could I have been that dumb? Let’s hope it was an early attempt at humor.   Either way,  I could have never known at the time, how much that collection would grow over the years.

I listen to music from just about every genre and lots of it.  I also read about music, watch concert videos, write and record music and play lead guitar with two different bands.  Oh yeah, and now I write a blog about music.   There seems to be a common theme here folks.  Anyway, I keep up with a lot of current music, but prefer indie to mainstream pop.  I’m into old school jazz but only as a change of pace. Sometimes in the winter I get sluggish and melancholy enough to crave an occasional symphony or sonata.  But the music that really fascinates me has always been the music I grew up with, classic rock from the 70s.  You can expect most of my posts to focus on artists and music from that era, but some of it will be a bit obscure.  That should make it fun.  With any luck, I’ll help you discover some great music you might have othrwise missed.

I’m not locking myself into any particular format right now because I’m still feeling it out.  My original plan was to have new content up every day.  But I’m finding it hard to complete posts to my satisfaction at that pace while working another full time job.  So I’m currently committed to spending several hours each day writing, but I won’t post until I feel the piece is ready.  Quality over quantity for now.  So keep checking in and expect 3-4 posts each week.  The format is real simple.  I’m simply going to write about whatever I happen to be listening at the moment.  So the selections will be random by design. It might be a review or maybe just riffin’.

This blog is a new venture for me.  It’s not that I haven’t written before, I just haven’t ever written anything like this.   That is, I haven’t ever really tried to entertain a reader before.  I’m pretty sure I can do it, but it could take some time to find my voice.  So be strong.  Hang in there.  Get in on the ground floor of a work in progress and let’s see what happens.

And I know the site design needs some attention.  I promise you I’ll get to it.  Rome took a few days to build I’ve heard.

Anyway, thanks for coming and checking out the page.  I hope you enjoy a few of the posts!
